The quality at the 2006 Forge Invitation Musclecar Show was unsurpassed; take, for instance, this 1970 SS 396 Chevelle that came up form Pensacola, Fla., courtesy of Tom Notaro.
The Chevy highlights at the Forge Invitational Musclecar Show were part of the new Supercar Fest that had been scheduled as a special part of the 2006 edition. Devoted to those cars either built under a COPO code or modified by one of the fabled dealerships (Yenko, Baldwin-Motion, Nickey, Dana, etc), supercar examples were mixed in throughout the 100-car exhibition. By far the most visible and important was the selection of ZL1 Camaros, including the first one built and left in as-raced condition by Bill Porterfield, and as well as a tribute example put together by John Norrell around engine number 62. Other ZL1’s came from Cliff Ernst, Joe Zrostlik, Gary Holub, Tony Young, and an anonymous collector.

Meanwhile, Yenko was represented well by 1969 Camaros (like those of Ron Norman and Rich Gregory) and 1970’s Dueces (Alan Ives and an almost-finished restoration being done by Ricky Smith). A highlight for many was a fresh ‘barn find’ 1969 gold example that was found by Clint Richmond. There were also numerous Z28s and Camaro pacecars, including a 1969 red JL8 Z28 that Larry Christenson brought in from Colorado, and Carl Todd’s spectacular 1968 Smokey Yunick ‘hemi experimental’ Trans Am prototype Z28.
