Only two of four scheduled qualifying sessions were completed due to the rain, which certainly didn’t help Mike Hill, who strapped on larger tires and brought out his ADRL Extreme 10.5 ’63 Corvette to attempt making the Super Pro Street field. The Lithonia, GA-based driver managed a best of only 7.64 at 139.85 mph to finish qualifying at 38th of 69 entries.

Charlie Sikes gets his twin-turboed ’62 Impala a little crossed up during the burnout for his second qualifying attempt. Unfortunately, the Pulaski, WI-based racer was 45th after the session and rain prevented any chance for him to improve and make the raceday show.

Fresh off wrapping up his third consecutive NMCA Pro Street championship, Hicksville, NY’s Vinny Budano seized the Super Pro Street pole at Orlando with a 6.46-seconds blast at 220.91 mph in his nitrous-fed, Shafiroff 714-equipped ‘68 Camaro. Budano sent Frank Cersosimo packing after the first round and was granted runner-up status after going 6.51/220.04 against the ’05 Cobalt of Halver Hansen Jr. in round two. Driving a 2005 Chevy Cobalt still adorned with the ACDelco livery it carried when Kurt Johnson campaigned in NHRA Pro Stock action, Lauderhill, FL’s Halver Hansen Jr. qualified 17th, then advanced past Gerry Sweeney before falling to eventual race runner-up Budano in the second round.

If they were giving out Best Appearing awards, the blown 540 Chevy powered ’53 Vette of Galena, OH’s Scott Braskett certainly would’ve been in the running. Brasket qualified 15th in Super Pro Street, but last to Chuck Samuel in round two.
