
The 2000 Camaro of Steve Kirk Jr. awaits its second qualifying pass on Saturday night before propelling the defending ORSCA Outlaw 10.5 champ to the 5th starting spot at Orlando. Kirk beat the Fords of Dennis Lugo and Canadian Gino Cavalieri before rain cut eliminations short.
HEAVY STREET

Event winner Sam Gottier (near lane) began his weekend with thisHeavy Street qualifying shot alongside the ’69 Camaro of Bradenton, FL’s Patrick Adams, who eventually qualified 14th, but lost in the opening round to Mitch Mika and his 1985 Camaro. Gottier started his Donovan 707-equipped ’71 Chevelle from the 7th position and beat the 632-powered ’81 Camaro of Dale Hammond with a 7.51/186.07 pass in round one, which was low E.T. for the round and gave Gottier the 2007 Orlando Real World Street Nationals title.

Mike Schmidt of Sunrise, FL, qualified his 632 c.i. 2002 Camaro in the 5th position, then overcame a first-round holeshot by Dale Collins Jr. in his Frankford, DE-based ’67 Camaro.

Anthony Russo, racing out of nearby Ocala, FL, qualified his 1967 Chevelle in the runner-up slot for Heavy Street at Orlando. Russo had a free pass in round one when the ’79 Camaro of opponent Omar Obando couldn’t make the call.
