DRAG RADIAL

After the Drag Radial crown went to David Wolfe, runner-up Shane Stack from Huntsville, AL, was the top Bowtie finisher at Orlando. Powered by a turbocharged 438 cubic incher, Stack’s 1986 Monte Carlo went 7.89/186.00 to secure the 4th qualifying position and he beat Lewis Jones with a 7.83/187.44 combo on raceday.

All the way from Needles, CA, came “Slim” Assad Zeinaty, who qualified 23 rd with his 420-equipped 1968 Chevelle, then made a solo pass in round one when Al Belford’s Mustang brok. Zeinaty also qualified 19th in Outlaw 10.5 with a ’91 Camaro, but lost in the opner on raceday to Charlie Dolbin.

Spotted beside the Procharger display in Orlando’s manufacturer’s midway was this 1993 Chevy wagon piloted by Steve Morris out of Muskegon, MI. With a Procharger-boosted 588 c.i. Chevy motor under the hood, the big wagon went 9.86 at 157.15 mph in its first Drag Radial qualifying attempt, but broke the blower belt its second time out and was relegated to 80th after 99 cars made qualifying passes.

Steve Wardlow of Sycamore, IL, put his ’68 Nova in the 24th qualifying position with an 8.22/171.31 pass and took out Maryland’s Al Marlow and his ’91 Camaro in round one of eliminations.
