Talkin’ Turkey in Montgomery

Montgomery Motorsports Park hosted its 7th annual Turkey Day Shootout Nov. 24, presented by Bell’s Transmission and Ward’s construction. The race was conducted under overcast skies in nippy conditions, but a decent-sized crowd still showed up to brave the elements and MMP’s track crew kept things moving briskly over the eighth-mile course.

Ronnie “The King” Davis prevailed in the top-ranked 4.30 index final over event promoter Edmund “Mr. 5-Speed” Hall, while Florida’s Bobby Sowell won the 4.70 final and local driver Neil Messick took 5.30 honors. The 6.0 class win went to Montgomery’s own Buddy Baggett, Josh Mackey won in 7.0 and the 8.0 win belonged to Heath Hammitt. Two motorcycle classes also hit the track, with Dustin Dulaney earning the 5.10 index win and 5.90 bragging rights going to Terrence Powell.

Suwanee, GA’s Ronnie Davis padded his career stats with yet another win in his Fulton 738-equipped ’63 Corvette, going 4.33 at 167.62 mph in the 4.30 final against the 4.38/167.66 put together by race promoter Edmund Hall. Davis said he was using the MMP outing as a tune-up opportunity before heading down to the Snowbird Nationals this coming weekend at Bradenton, FL.

Edmund “Mr. 2-Speed (this time)” Hall qualified his nitrous-boosted Cobalt fourth in the eight-car 4.30 field and after a first-round freebie the Montgomery-based racer/promoter ousted “T-Man” from the semis and made a strong run against Davis in the final round.
