Icy ‘Blast’ in Georgia
The wind was blowing and it felt cold enough to be snowing, but more than 100 entries still showed up Apr. 7, for the 8th annual Blast from the Fast Past car show at Miller Park in Marietta, GA.
“We’re sorry we couldn’t deliver better weather, but we still had pretty good participation with some cars coming from as far way as Charlotte,” said Community Charity Concepts President Wayne Dodds, organizer of the event.
In addition to the show-and-shine for nearly 100 trophies and awards, the Blast featured live bands and a vendor area, with D and D Mobile Dyno Service also on hand for those brave enough to find out the true power numbers of their precious rides.

This 12,000-mile ’62 Impala has to be seen to be believed. Owner Joe Fred Floyd Jr. of Austell, GA, said his late father purchased the car from a Marietta, GA, dealer in 1961 and used it only for special family trips until stowing it way under some old quilts in the mid-‘70s. Floyd Sr. and his children decided in 1999 to dust off the old girl and got it ready just in time for a local 4th of July parade in 2000. Floyd Jr. said he sometimes has trouble convincing people the car has not been through a complete restoration, as it retains even the original clear plastic seatcovers.

This piece of rolling art was for sale at the Blast. All we know is that it’s a ’59 El Camino and could be yours for a cool $30K, but we couldn’t find its owner, so no details on what’s under the hood.
