| Aeromotive Nitro Coupe Winner Cody Barklage |
Everyone knows that Virginia is for lovers, but Missouri's Cody Barklage must think it's also for racers. He absolutely loves Virginia Motorsports Park after his win in the Aeromotive Nitro Coupe Challenge during the Super Chevy 27th Annual Tour visit to VMP June 8-10. The win, his second in a row, puts Cody in a tie with event runner-up Tony "Sandman" Williams for the world championship points lead.
About the only thing Cody didn't do in Virginia was nab the top qualifier spot, which went to his brother Zach with a blast of 6.161 at 229.04 which set a bar that no one else could approach during qualifying. On Sunday, though, Cody put his brother on the trailer after Zach's wicked '57 Chevy Aeromotive Nitro Coupe couldn't' leave the starting line in the semi-finals.
That put Cody in the finals facing Nitro Coupe veteran Tony "Sandman" Williams, who took out Aeromotive Nitro Coupe rookie Ken Walsh in the semis Barklage put his '05 Pontiac GTO into warp drive in the final with a 6.307 at 208.94. Williams nailed the tree with an .003 bulb, but ran an 8.018 at 181.62 in a losing cause.
