North Carolina’s Darrin Hoyle continued his domination of the Limited Street class at Atlanta, scoring his third win after going to all four finals this year. Hoyle started his nitrous-injected, 762-powered ’69 Camaro from the fifth position and after two singles in the first two rounds, knocked off Carlton Thompson in a rematch of the final at the previous race in Montgomery, AL. Kyle Hochtel of Cypress, TX, fell to Hoyle in the semis. Defending class champ Jeff Cooner left with a perfect .000 light in the final round, but Hoyle quickly made up the .033 deficit and won with a 4.901/154.02, his best pass of the weekend, to a 5.043/151.07 by Cooner and his turbocharged 2000 Mustang.

David Reese also has reached all four EZ Street finals this year with his alky-fueled, turbocharged ’95 Mustang, and also picked up his third win of ’07 at Atlanta. After a second-place qualifying effort Reese had a first-round bye, then easily handled Pierre Burley and Brandon May to reach number-one qualifier Shane Stack in the final round. Stack was unable to start his ’86 Monte Carlo for their showdown, however, so Reese had a free pass in which he went 4.982/152.06 for the win.
The Fox-bodied Mustangs of the number-one and number-two Modified Street qualifiers met in the final round, with top dog Brian Murphy of Elkmont, AL, taking the win over Glen Jones. After a first-round bye, Murphy tied Spurgeon Adkins’ class E.T. record in the second round when he beat John Connell with a 5.490/128.62 pass, then ousted Adkins from the semis. In a good final round, Murphy left with a .021 light, just .007 ahead of Jones, then raced to the win in 5.530 seconds at 127.81 mph, compared to the 5.563/127.11 put together by Jones.
