Father and son, Gordon (near lane) and Mike Saiki, in their matching Camaros met in the second round of Limited 10.5. When the lights flashed it was Mike away first (.141 to .461), and he took that advantage and pulled away for the win with the quickest and fastest Limited 10.5 run to date, 8.553 at 163.93 mph. Mike won the next round to advance to the final.
When the cars left the line in the final round it was Tony Politano away first with a big advantage off the line (.068 to Mike’s .141) and at the eighth-mile mark he was ahead by nearly a car length, but Saiki was starting to pull up and at 1,000 feet he had pulled to within .04. At the stripe it was Mike getting the win light and the record -- an 8.652 at 163.54 to Politano’s 8.737 at 156.00. By a margin of victory of .012-seconds the championship went to Mike Saiki.

In Drag Radial qualifying Dave Bowman (above) continued to improve just as he has done all year, he took the #1 spot with a potential e.t. record of 5.027 at a record setting 151.71 mph!
With track temps as high as they had been all weekend and the fact that these cars have big horsepower and little 275 Drag Radial tires, the final round could have gone either way. Bowman took the advantage at the tree .065 to Armen Maghdessian’s .098. Both cars left well but it wasn’t long till Maghdessian experienced tire spin and had to pedal the big block ‘57 Chevy. In the other lane Bowman was hooked up and gone on another smooth run and the Bowman Camaro took the victory 5.204 at 150.45. ![]()
