Danny sorted out the chassis with QA1 coil/overs up front and replaced the stock shocks and springs in the rear. With SSBC disc brakes front and back, a 7-inch Right Stuff brake booster provides a little added security in addition to just looking good. Getting the Camaro to hug the road is the responsibility of the Delphi 500 steering box, and stock front and rear anti-sway bars. Those American Racing Hopster wheels carrying 215/50R17 and 275/40R17s put this F-Bomb on a roll.
Mayday Hot Rod sanded and smoothed the relatively sound $3,500 hardtop that formed the basis for this car before they put down the Tuxedo Black finish and rally striping accents. Inside, Danny’s penchant for good sounds meant a Sony head unit along with a remote Sony 10-disc CD changer. Using an Ezy Wiring harness, Danny matched Rockford Fosgate amps with Alpine 6X9 deck speakers in a custom enclosure and included twin Rockford Punch P1 subs to accent the bass.
Jim’s Bowtie Supply in Shelbyville, TN, refinished the interior in hounds tooth vintage and replaced the carpeting with a fresh black-loop covering. Haneline gauges found a home in the stock dash fascia, and Hareford’s finishing touch was a Vintage Air system that allows him to cruise in comfort, just as he had planned.
Investing about $60,000 in parts and labor, Danny’s ’69 Camaro stands out with its big- block as well as its approach towards building a sane and eminently useable muscle car that runs fast and looks good.
