Bob’s got a fully equipped shop stocked with a lift and about everything he’d need to rework his Corvette, but he’s also got the wherewithal to have a professional do it right the first time. He got with his pal Ritchie Brandl at Superior Custom Classics (www.superiorcustomclassics.com) in Hudson, FL, for the C3’s make-over. Ritchie’s an old hot rodding hand who has built just about everything. His specialties are custom interiors, complete chassis fabrication, and engine modification/transplants with computer-controlled harnesses, paint, in short, the works. Basically a Ford guy, Ritchie’s expertise centers on modular engines, with or without a power adder. He can’t do it alone, though. Ritchie, Jr., and David Brandl work side by side with Frank Narcici and Jimmy Webber.

Compared to SCCI’s usual, labor-intensive hand-work, Bob’s Corvette was a relatively easy proposition. Everything was bolt-in or bolt-on and that’s the real beauty of this deal. Superior cleaned up the engine compartment and dropped in a GM Performance Parts Fast Burn 385 crate motor (4-bolt main bearings, forged crankshaft, 9.6:1 compression ratio help to produce 385hp). Tube headers finished the story. That the classic small-block produces one horsepower per cubic inch is completely satisfactory.
