Steve spun the yarn: ”I had owned a ‘73 Z28 as a kid in Indiana. I thought it would be nice to resurrect those days of my youth, only this time I had the money and the resources to build something sweet. One night, my friend Ken and I spotted the nose of a Camaro sticking out of some trees. We checked it out the next day and discovered that it was for sale. Ken saw the cowl tag [VIN], looked up and said ‘You want this car!’

“It was a real Z28 RS and seemed to be in great shape except for a nasty paint job that had seen much better days. The owner told us that he’d just brought the car back to Florida from, yep, Indiana. He’d taken it up there and stuck it in a barn so that when his two sons grew up they’d have something to drive. The boys were truck guys and didn’t want it, so it had sat for 12 years. After I’d cleaned out all the rat nests, snake skins and one calcified mouse stuck up under the dash, I realized that the body was in incredible shape. I was stunned. I wouldn’t have to replace a single piece of sheet metal. The car had most of its original parts, including the numbers matching engine. The only changes were headers and a Borg-Warner Super T-10 instead of the original Muncie M21.”
