Detroit area racer Bob Rahaim (one syllable and rhymes with claim) is the racer who accomplished that “big deal”. Rahaim put together a Powerglide-equipped Camaro Pro Mod and earlier this year at an event at Summit Raceway Park in Norwalk, Ohio, became the first ‘glide-equipped Pro Mod to make an eighth-mile pass in less than 4.00 seconds.

We know just how hard that was to do and we knew our readers would love to know as much as the could about the driver and his barrier busting car so we got Mr. Rahaim to give us some details about the car, engine and especially the transmission.

We caught up with Bob Rahaim and his crew at the American Drag Racing League event near St. Louis soon after he ran the first ever three-second lap in a Pro Mod with a Powerglide automatic transmission.

A full complement of the gauges necessary to monitor the engine and other systems is found in the cockpit that is made mostly from carbon fiber. The steering wheel is a Grant. A B&M shifter controls the Hughes trans and a Racepak dash for the V-300 data logger is at the driver’s eye level. A 10-lb. bottle of nitrous plus the nitrogen bottle sits in the cockpit with the MSD ignition system and Data logger. It can be busy in a Pro Mod cockpit.
