Katech’s lightweight Z06 shaves pounds to shave off seconds

Got a suitcase fulla dead presidents you don’t know what to do with? Katech’s latest severely race-oriented Z06 begins at only $109K. Hey, it’s an exclusive piece of technology and probably just about right for several extreme hardware junkies we know. It’s called the ClubSport package and is available exclusively from Katech as well as Les Stanford Chevrolet (Dearborn, MI). It incorporates a pallet of aftermarket stuff that reduces curb weight from 3,180 to 2,915 pounds (or 2,825 pounds for the blitzkrieg version) and a power-to-weight ratio of 5.45lb/hp (standard) or 5.28lb/hp (fully optimized).

The ClubSport Diet:
Brakes: Brembo two-piece cross-drilled 14-inch rotors; front six-piston monobloc calipers squeeze 14-inch rotors; rear, 13.6-inch rotors, four-piston monobloc calipers

Suspension: Double-adjustable coil-overs shocks, seven individually adjustable rebound and compression settings; system specially tuned by Moton engineers and SCCA World Challenge professional driver Andy Pilgrim

ClubSport Rims/Tires: Forged one-piece aluminum wheels (18x9.5, 19x12) finished in gray powder coat and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Tires (285/30R18, 325/30R19)

Appearance Package: Carbon fiber front splitter and matching carbon fiber rear spoiler; lift-off carbon fiber World Challenge hood vents the engine compartment, ClubSport racing stripe on front fenders and rear fascia identifies vehicle as an exclusive Katech Performance creation

Engine: Halltech Killer Bee air intake, carbon fiber intake to complement Katech carbon fiber valve covers, lightweight 18-gauge stainless steel exhaust with X-pipe, two lightweight mufflers, over-axle pipes and CORSA quad tips, Exedy Twin-Disc clutch, Braille battery.

Options: Caravaggio leather race seats; A/C and/or radio delete as well as carpet delete; roll bar or harness bar and six-point harnesses; ARE dry sump system. [08/28/08]

Wins best appearing award at first ADRL race

O’Fallon, Missouri, racer Randy Matlock took his ’57 Chevy to Norwalk for his ADRL first race and qualified number 16. Unfortunately, he lost in the first round, but he did get best appearing. Not a bad first race: Qualify for the ultra-tough ADRL Xtreme 10.5 class and get best appearing.  (photo courtesy ADRL Communications) [08/28/08]
